Canadian Jihad Website Shuts Down
Jihad Unspun, an English language website devoted to supporting terrorism, is shutting down. The Canadian based website was notorious for its overt support of terrorists actively engaged in fighting against fellow Canadian citizens.
The website claims it is shutting down because of a "decline in credible third party information sources and a lack of translation resources."
However, sources close to The Jawa Report claim that Jihad Unspun and its publisher, Khadija Abdul Qahaarbeen, have been under criminal investigation by Canadian authorities for some time. In addition to calling for armed resistance against Canadian troops in Afghanistan the website routinely publishes content which could be construed as 'hate speech' under Canadian law.
In April the U.S. State Department posted on its Web site an article entitled, A Trio of Disinformers: Islam Memo, Muhammad Abu Nasr, and Jihad Unspun." After noting that the Web site was owned by a Canadian woman who converted to Islam the article commented, "'Jihad Unspun' has a track record of spreading very unreliable allegations." (UPI)
The website has published many inflammatory articles in the past. For instance, Jihad Unspun published an article claiming that a U.S. soldier murdered a little girl on a bet.
GOOD RIDDANCE.

Is the same Jihad "Zionists behind 9/11" Unspun that Google News uses as a legitimate new site while calling LGF and the Jawa Report "hate sites"?

Stolen Valor and the Forgotten Faker
Interesting and thorough Veteran's Day piece by Anne Morse up over at the
Weekly Standard on the phenomenon of people pretending to be war heroes. She notes that they almost always are given away by the magnitude of their lies; they're rarely content just to have been involved in a firefight or seeing a little action, but typically fabricate an improbably romanticized history as a Ranger or SEAL or death-dealing CIA operative (e.g.,
ahem, a CIA
gunrunner behind the lines in Cambodia).
She finishes up talking about the execrable Jimmy Massey, the Marine Sergeant who spread slanderous lies about the awful things our servicemen had done to Iraqi civilians. It's good to keep wailing on Massey, but Morse forgot someone important. Someone the Left wants you to forget. Do y'all remember Micah Wright?
Micah Wright pretended to be a Ranger in Panama and built pretty much his whole career around that big fat stinkin' lie. And apparently he was one of those "you can't have an opinion if you haven't served, man!" types, who parlayed his attitude into a book deal and a lot of anti-war publicity. I first heard about this amazing, bald-faced lying liar over a year ago on what was then a pretty new blog--a fresh faced, take-on-all-comers tyro named Ace of Spades. Now little ol' Ace is all grown up and has his own radio show and everything--but you'll want to check out these cute snapshots from when he was just knee-high to a bloghopper and hadn't yet mastered singular pronouns.
And then you'll really want to skip over to Michele of ASV for her gleefully thorough dismantling of every last scrap of this wretched fake's dignity.
The unmasking of Micah Wright, who was emerging unquestioned into the mainstream as an anti-war voice, remains an unsung triumph of the blogosphere. If you are browsing on Veteran's Day, check out those links and give thanks that bloggers are out there relentlessly fact-checking the MSM's take on the war--and thereby honoring our fighting men.
UPDATE: While Michelle and Jim Treacher deserve credit for fact-checking Wright, keeping the pressure on him, and goading him into demonstrable lies, Washington Post reporter Richard Leiby is the one who got suspicious and filed FOIA requests for Wright's service record--and published an expose on May 2, 2004.
Another good account, by a victim of Wright's self-righteousness-ray, is here. Kevin Parrotts' summary of the event includes this important point about why remembering Wright's deception is important:
As a matter of fact, I think Micah Wright will end up getting more work and making more money off his lies than before they were discovered.
And that's the second reason I almost didn't write this. I have the feeling Micah Wright already knows what I just stated, and is eating up every minute of what's been going on. Micah wins.
Oh, sure, his new book of remixed WWII posters has been cancelled (for now), but no one I've read on the Net seems to have picked up on the hidden message in this sentence from the Seven Stories website:
The author's introduction will be removed from any future printings of YOU BACK THE ATTACK.
and again, from the Washington Post article which exposed him:
It also will remove from future printings of the first book his detailed and wholly fictional account of parachuting into Panama under fire during Operation Just Cause.
Instead of leaving in the lie, and providing some extra editorial commentary to place the incident in proper context, they're going to make it disappear. Just like it never happened at all.
And as for the "cancellation", I'll bet you'll see If You're Not A Terrorist...Then Stop Asking Questions! in print before the end of the year. They're going to wait for things to cool off a bit - then the presses will roll, Amazon will relist, and the Ranger scandal will never be mentioned again. Like it never happened at all.
DC comics will delay publication of his Vigilante series for a few months, because in a few months all of this will have blown over and no one will remember it. There are a lot of people working behind the scenes in different ways to make sure no one remembers it, I'm guessing.
Everyone loves and rewards a liar, it seems. Jayson Blair got a book contract; Stephen Glass got a book contract and ended up being played by Young Darth Vader on the silver screen. What will Micah get?

about 4 days ago "Neo Con Blogger" had a story about the French. He claimed that he had been told by a friend "a lrrp from the 101st that had served alongside the cowardly French in Vietnam" ..... When I commented on the fact that I thought all the French had left by the time the 101st arrived in 1965. The story vanished from his blog. However, no correction or retraction has ever been posted for his readers.

Veteran's Day

It's Veteran's Day.
Memorial Day is when we honor those that died to give us our freedom.
Veteran's Day is the day when you have your chance to say thanks, alive and in person, to those who will soon be memorialized.
I'm not naive, I know many of you do that every chance you get.
I served but never fought, and in some ways that disappoints me. But then I look back at my experience in the Navy and I realize that no matter what, my time in the Navy will guide me well for the rest of my life.
So I say thanks to all of those who went in before me, whose cumulative wisdom helped me become the man I am today.

It's also Memorial Day in my country for honoring locals who fought in British service during World War II. I think though that it's fitting to offer thanks to veterans everywhere, regardless of nationality that have done their part to preserve freedom in the world. A special thanks must be given to veterans of the United States Armed Forces though, who now continue the vast majority of the work alone. So thank you brave men and women. In doing your part to make your country safer, you've helped (and still are helping)to make mine safer as well.

Personally believed Vets Day and Election Day should be merged. They would go well together - Vets - the right to vote - freedom.
Makes it kinda difficult to forget one without the other.
And an Official Day off - to remember and to vote. Lots of people claim to want Election Day off (possible increase in turnout).
Libs would never go for it once they realize the potential downside for them - all those vets and their friends and families remembering - and voting

We Are All French Today
And so it begins. What many of us thought of as a purely American media tendency to portray police or soldiers as villains while exalting criminals and terrorists is a French sport, as well.
From NEWS.com.au:
TF1, the television channel, showed a young Arab on the outskirts of Lyons objecting politely about the insulting manner of an officer who had demanded his identity papers.
"You want me to take you to a transformer?" the officer sneers back, referring to the electricity station where two teenagers were electrocuted while fleeing an identity check.
The incident sparked the riots.
[merde de boeuf - Bluto]
"We don't give a shit if your estate calms down," said the officer, using the disrespectful "tu" rather than "vous".
"In fact, the more it gets f...ed up the happier we are."
Just when the French thought the Intifada was quieting down, a French Kevin Sites has decided to heat things up again. So a cop, who has probably been on duty for days, got fed up with a smartass remark from some arrogant pimple farmer. This minor incident needs to be reported all over the world (NEWS.com.au is an Australian outlet) and used as justification for the Muslim insurrection in Europe? No wonder the US has to step in and save these effeminate jackasses time after time.
A little further on we get some insight into why a cop in France might be a wee bit on edge:
"Casser les keufs" - beating up cops - is what they like doing best, say the young wreckers.
"We torch a car and when the keufs turn up, the fun starts," a teenager said with typical bravado at a northeast Paris estate.
When no cops are available perhaps these little
chameaux sales might get into a little
"casser les journalistes". Then you can bet you'll see editorials demanding more aggressive police presence.
Also posted at The Dread Pundit Bluto, where the French are mocked openly, sometimes in their own language.

"...a young Arab on the outskirts of Lyons objecting politely..."
Show us the tape. That's the journalistic standards of today. Don't show the hundreds (or thousands) of cops who do their job right. Blast the airwaves with one guy who said something rude. And imply that it's justification for torching thousands of cars, businesses and homes.
A big accusation right now is that the dismantling of the "Proximity Police" that worked on foot in these areas is what allowed the situation to boil over. I'd venture to guess that it sounds more like they were "Appeasement Police". By all accounts, these guys were there just to keep things quiet while the same failed, socialistic policies of the French government continued.
It's always the same story. Don't blame those who wreak havoc. Blame those who "made" them do it. While there are root causes for every issue, no blame for the ensuing havoc is ever assigned to those who actually commit the crimes.

When children fall down, it is acceptable to pick them up a few times, to show them that they must get up instead of lying prostrate, wallowing in self pity, but there comes a time when they must get up on their own. We have spent hundreds of thousands of our young men's lives picking the French up, but now they must get up on their own. I have no sympathy or respect for anyone who will not fight for their own survival; such people deserve extinction.

Hondo is NOT sympathethic to the French! In a few more days the riots will burn themselves out due mostly to the lack of things to burn and the changing weather ( winter and colder temps are coming).
The French will then engage in an orgy of liberal socialist soul-searching and come to the conclusion that they haven't been liberal or socialist enough!
They will then pat themselves on the back on "how little actual death and injury" there was and be proud of that. And they WILL compare their response to say "an American" one with lots of deaths, violence and brutality (their opinion) and feel superior about themselves.
the French will become smug and self-righteous about the whole thing and boast that they handled the situation better than say "those Americans".
DOES ANYONE DOUBT THAT!
The French respond the way they do because they are afraid of the Muslims. They believe that if they do use force and tough tactics the Muslims would probably escalate to the nth level with car and truck bombings, suicide bombers in subways etc. leading to the deaths of hundreds if not more French citizens.
The French love the "status quo"! Their lifestyle and social attitudes are more important to them than reality. They don't want the boat rocked and are more than willing to compromise and turn a blind eye in the name of "peace and tranquility".
Some years ago during a heat wave more than 5000 French citizens died - seems it coincided with the national vacation period - everything had virtually shut down including hospitals and social services. Those who died needlessly were simply casualties of "the lifestyle" and the "lifestyle" was more important.
They didn't give a damn then - nothing changed and no one held accountable - what makes anyone think they are going to give a damn now.

Look Up In The Sky! It's A Dictator, It's An Islamofascistprick, Its..
...The Chinless Wonder!
Analysis: Syria's Leader Remains an Enigma
Had it not been for the premature death of the eldest son of the Assad clan, Bashar al-Assad might well be enjoying the quiet life of a private medical practice in Damascus, or London, or perhaps Paris, as he speaks both English and French.
"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England." [er...Syria, - ed.]
But when his brother was killed in an automobile accident in 1994, his father, Syrian President Hafez al-Assad called him home from studies in London and began grooming him for a political life. Six years later, Hafez died and Bashar al-Assad was Syria's new president.
At the recent annual conference of the Middle East Institute in Washington, journalist and political analyst Hisham Melhem of al-Arabiya TV said that was one of the few mistakes by the wily Hafez al-Assad.
"One day, lad, all this will be yours."
"What, the curtains?"
"No, not the curtains, lad, all that you can see stretched out over the valleys and the hills! That'll be your kingdom, lad."
"But I would argue that one of his biggest mistakes, if you will, was to bequeath the realm, so to speak, to his son, a 35-year old inexperienced young man," he said. "Now, Bashar's era shows, I would argue, the pitfalls of political inheritance in the Arab world. And it's very hard, five years after he began his rule, to point out to a single domestic, regional or international decision that this regime made that was wise or farsighted. And I'm not being harsh on him."
"You fell out of the tall tower, you creep!"
"I was saved at the last minute."
But speaking at the Middle East Institute, investigative journalist Seymour Hersh warned against any rush to judgment of Syria, saying the United States has an agenda in the region.
"I'm exceedingly skeptical, and I have been all along, of the point of view of what happened to Hariri," said Mr. Hersh. "The American point of view is that it was Syria with the aid of some people in Lebanon. Despite all the back and forth about how the American press corps was totally manipulated, to its embarrassment, about WMD, I would still argue, we're still being totally manipulated by this administration about Syria and Lebanese involvement."
"Oh, fair one, behold, I am your humble servant Sir Launcelot Seymour. I have come to take...Oh, I'm terribly sorry!"
"You got my note!"
"Uh, well, I got a note."
"You've come to rescue me! I knew someone would! I knew that somewhere out there, there must be someone who..."
All this time, there's been something nagging in the back of my brain about Bashar the Chinless Wonder Assad.
Just tonight it hit me. He reminds me of the fruity prince from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Heh. First time I've ever been able to fisk something using movie quotes, but then, O Chinless One makes it all too easy.

I saw him on C-SPIN giving a speech at Damascus University today, and he was babbling on about shooting himself, and thieves in the house, etc., in other words, typical meaningless arab blabber.
I watched the whole thing, and the best I could make of it was that he was threatening the US while proclaiming Syria's innocence, which, as we all remember, is a strategy that worked so well for Saddam. He's just begging for an invasion.

The New Red Crystal
Next month, representatives from 192 signatories to the Geneva Conventions are scheduled to meet to discuss
adding a new emblem to represent the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations. The new emblem is called the "Red Crystal."

Red Cross - Red Crescent - Red Crystal
The Swiss government is attempting to introduce the new emblem for use by national groups that reject the current Red Cross or Red Crescent. The Red Crystal would have no national, religious, or cultural connotations.
If adopted, it's believed the new emblem would also clear the way for Israel's membership. However, despite the good intentions of the Swiss, I'm convinced that Israel's membership won't occur easily and without controversy.
All that said, my thinking is that the new emblem looks more like a red square or a red diamond, not a red crystal.
[Update 11/11/05]
Interestingly, the geniuses in Geneva might want to consider the fact that the 'Red Crystal' is already being used as a firing range target. Sporting the 'Red Crystal' emblem in the confusion of battle could be a problem.

I wouldn't be suprised if that crappy looking "red crystal" was designed by a delegate's 5 year old on the back of a TGI Friday's napkin.
If the Israelis do have to adopt it to join, the high contrast white center of the crystal gives the terrorists a convenient x-ring of sorts to group their shots in. I guess a red bullseye was considered, but was rejected for being too obvious.

Some are trying to put the focus on the two bloggers' dispute. That's not the real matter at hand here. People have disputes all the time. I can't see where Deignan was outwardly rude and BitchPHD was simply a weasel for deleting Deignan's comments. But that's business as usual on the web. It's the guy who called Deignan's advisors that should be the focus of the issue.
The best comment there was the response BJS gave to Andrew Purvis:
" .. how does tenure play a necessary role .."
Why, of course, nothing. That is why the female (untenured faculty) in the matter is fighting to remain anonymous. And the PhD student (untenured) was reprimanded by his superiors.
Subtle note of sarcasm there.

ACLU Can Now Accept Money From Terrorists
Hat tip:
Stop The ACLU
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK – The American Civil Liberties Union and 12 other national non-profit organizations today said they have successfully challenged Office of Personnel Management's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) requirements that all participating charities check their employees and expenditures against several government watch lists for "terrorist activities" and that organizations certify that they do not contribute funds to organizations on those lists.
Well, now that is something to be excited about for the ACLU. Now they can knowingly accept money from terrorists. Furthermore, they can now contribute funds to people on terrorist watch lists.
This is a major victory for non-profit organizations that refused to be subjected to vague government requirements forcing us to become law enforcement officers for the federal government," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "We feel vindicated. List checking is not and has not been required by law."
Romero was referring to the Office of Personnel Management's final regulation posted in the Federal Register earlier this week, saying that it is dropping list-checking requirements. The regulation states: "Under the final rule, effective for 2006 and subsequent campaigns, OPM does not mandate that applicants check the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List or the Terrorist Exclusion List (TEL)."
What a load of crap. Someone please explain what the CFC are thinking here. The ACLU refused this money at first, and refused to obey by the rules of the CFC. They later found a loop hole, by saying, "hey, notice the word "knowingly"? We could just not check the list, and then we could say we didn't know." Clever, eh? So they continued to get the money. Other organizations that tried to give the ACLU money and abide by the rules of the CFC were downright refused by the ACLU.
In October of 2004, the ACLU turned down $1.15 million in funding from two of it's most generous and loyal contributors, the Ford and Rockefeller foundations, saying new anti-terrorism restrictions demanded by the institutions make it unable to accept their funds.
"The Ford Foundation now bars recipients of its funds from engaging in any activity that "promotes violence, terrorism, bigotry, or the destruction of any state."
The Rockefeller Foundation's provisions state that recipients of its funds may not "directly or indirectly engage in, promote, or support other organizations or individuals who engage in or promote terrorist activity."
Well, no worries now! Its victory for the ACLU, as they put it. Its victory for those who want to harm America, thats what it is.
In 2003, the CFC generated more than $248 million from approximately 1,345,000 federal employees, according to the ACLU. The funds went to more than 10,000 participating non-profits that support our country's health and education systems, the arts and the environment, childrens' services and religious life. CFC contributions earmarked for the ACLU typically totaled about $500,000 per year; as a result of the policy, the organization lost more than $1 million in contributions.
Money, money, money, money!!!! Thats what the ACLU's talking about! I wonder what kind of religious life the ACLU are seeking to protect with this money. Most decent organizations wouldn't mind making sure their money didn't go to America's enemies, but for some strange reason the ACLU found this requirement burdensome. Oh, thats right, they are not decent.
"Watch list requirements and other misguided policies of today remind us of the now- discredited anti-Communist list checking of the early 1950's," said Romero. "It is no more justified now than it was then."
When was the anti-Communist list discredited? Oh, it was discredited by the ACLU's rewritten history. It was discredited because the ACLU say so.
Here's what the CFC letter said.
"I certify that as of (date), the organization in this application does not knowingly employ individuals or contribute funds to organizations found on the following terrorist related lists promulgated by the U.S. Government, the United Nations, or the European Union. Presently these lists include the Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control Specially Designated Nationals List, the Department of Justice's Terrorist Exclusion List, and the list annexed to Executive Order 13224. Should any change of circumstances occur during the year OPM will be notified within 15 days of such change."
Obviously the ACLU had a problem exluding terrorists from its funds and employment. What a shame. It begs two major questions here. Why would the ACLU have a problem exluding its funds from terrorists? And what is the CFC thinking by dropping this?
I don't know about you, but I feel safer already. Thanks ACLU!

It isn't just the ACLU. Quite a few organizations pulled out of the CFC over the watchlist requirement, such as the Catholic Peace Ministry....
"We knew that those watch-lists are created by the government with secret information that is notoriously unreliable, and we refused to violate the privacy of our clients and employees. But now that the federal government has dropped the list-checking requirements,
EFF will join the CFC again. We hope that our members will support us and the new policy by donating to EFF through the CFC,
said EFF media coordinator Rebecca Jeschke.
It isn't about supporting terorrism; it's about opposing completely unreliable watchlists. The kind that prevent babies and Senators from getting on airplanes, for instance.
If the government actually had accurate, reliable watchlists, the story might be a little different.

The Left is now the main enemy of the United States of America. They will have to be confronted before we can effectively fight the war on terror. They are traitors and are the main facilitators of the Islamists, as they want to use the jihadists as their footsoldiers, being too cowardly to do anything but hide behind the barristers.
It is obvious to me that the neo-liberals want the US to become an American version of Europe, with the fops who want to rule the rest of us using whatever minority is at hand as their proxies. But we must zero in on them. There are only a very few who are actually in charge.
The ACLU is a perfect example. This is a small group, but it is made up completely of traitors, and could be isolated very easily. They have proven themselves to be very effective because their friends are the judges who decide the cases. How convenient for them! However, it wouldn't take much to send these guys and gals packing, and that is exactly what we must be thinking about over the next few years. After what these people have done to the military, we can count on both active and retired personnel to be natural allies against the Leftists.

Back to the subject, as Greg's reaction proves, the Left fears more than anything that the rest of us will get fed up with their bullshit and confront them. There will be no civil war. Who would fight it for them? All that needs to be done is for us to band together and say enough is enough. It might not be difficult at all, and that is what the Left fears most of all.

DEATH TO AL-ZAQUEERY
Yes my pet name for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi but I’m not the only one who wants him dead now. Today there were massive demonstrations in Jordan calling for Mr Zaqueery to quote “Burn in Hell”. Now there is one group of chanting protesters I can agree with. Early in the year it was apparent after the bombings in Egypt that Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s methods caused political problems for them. Mr. Zaqueery must have a short memory for
now he has bombed Jordan. Moslems even those who sympathize with the cause or the root cause can no longer deny the pure evil of the Al-Qaeda doctrine. Even Palestine whom Al-Qaeda claims to be helping finds itself today a victim of the terrorists who kill in a cowardly random fashion.
Coupled with protests in Morocco last week it is now apparent that the war on terror will be won. Both our pressure and the pure evil of their tactics have put the writing on the wall. The harder they try the more people hate them including peoples all over the Middle East. The world is shrinking every day for Al-Qaeda soon they will be history.
Palestinians murdered by Al-Qaeda this week CNN:
Officials from other governments, however, were among the dead. Four Palestinians, including Maj. Gen. Bashir Nafeh, head of Palestinian military intelligence, died in the blast at the Grand Hyatt, said chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat. Also killed was Col. Abed Allun; Jihad Fattouh, the brother of the Palestinian parliament speaker; and Mosab Khoma, Erakat said. The four were on their way back from Cairo, Egypt, he said, adding his condemnation of the attacks.
Way to go moron yeah you Zaqueery you rat bastard son of a thousand dogs.

I don't believe in "coincidence" when a high ranking general in charge of PA security gets whacked in a bombing.
The PA general was cooperating with the IDF and Shin Bet
This was a hit on the general. All the rest was just for show to muddy up the waters.
If the good general was cracking down on extremist Palestinians and working with the Egyptians to clamp down on the Gaza border, that would make it harder for AQ to setup a base in Gaza.
Occams Razor says the general needed to get dead a lot more than AQ needed to do a few "random bombings".

Teh more I look at it it seems there was a lot of connected people there for the wedding or some stuff. It does all seem a bit odd and no doubt the PA is a target. Chief Bomb Maker for Jemaah Islamiyah Splodes Himself.

He saved the Indonesians the trouble and as far as I know the 27 raisins donÂ’t count when you blow yourself up to avoid capture. Nope no raisins for you Mr Azahari Husin maybe if you had been Japanese and used Saki and a sword, looser!!!! Mr. Husin has been pursued relentlessly by Indonesian police and had been quite slippery barely escaping several times. Today his luck ran out.
CNN: The Australian-educated Azahari is accused of being a mastermind behind the deadly Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005Â… Â… Azahari Husin, a Malaysian in his late 40s, was believed to be the bomb expert for the Islamic terror network Jemaah Islamiyah, and to have written its bomb manual.
Dead manÂ’s profile on TKB but his business has been taken care of.

This could also potentially be a bad thing. It's great that another one bites the dusts, but by this I mean that we knew who this guy was and pretty well had him contained from conducting/planning another attack as big as Bali. The way these terrorist cells and networks work is that there are anywhere from 2-5 terrorist "waiting in teh wings" to take over said dead guys job. It works the same way in Iraq and Afghanistan. The difference between Iraq/Afghanistan and Indonesia is that we have the intelligence assets to identify the next guy in Iraq/Afghanistan, the Indonesians are quite as quick about identifying the next would be Azahari.
Again, cheers to another less than contributing human being ending his life, but there are more out there and we know less now of who they are...

Bill, by your logic, we should leave them all alone and just watch them as they go about their business. When we kill one "mastermind", that means that a second stringer has to take his place. Then a third stringer, then a fourth, et cetera ad infinitum, until they run out of "masterminds". It looks already like they've used up their best and brightest, and I use the terms loosely, and are relying on idiots like Zaqueery, who has only managed to turn more muslims
against him than to him. We are winning, and one of the ways we are doing so is by killing the enemy. Duh.

The Politics of Identity and the Birth of a Meme
Max Boot has
about the best analysis of the French riots, and their underlying causes, that I've seen. (h/t:
Instapundit) It incorporates insights like those of
Gabriel Gonzolez at Winds of Change without leaving the false impression that multiculturalism has been vindicated. But it isn't quite clear enough, for my taste, about why multiculturalism is bound to be a failed experiment.
The false account that is emerging is this: France has had a legacy of "assimilation" that derives from its history of colonialism, and in that view all assimilated peoples, of whatever race or religion, are "French." The argument is that this "assimilation paradigm" leaves no place for an independent ethnic identity, so its attempts to force everyone into a single category are bound to fail. Stating the problem this way leads to the conclusion that France simply hasn't been sufficiently multicultural. It's a convenient way of looking at the problem if one wants to avoid the obvious criticism that multiculturalism might be the problem, rather than the solution.
The flaw in this perspective is that it ought to be obvious to even the casual observer that the problem isn't that France has assimilated all of its colonial aspirants into the single "idea" of Gaulic Nationhood, but that it has utterly failed to do so. And the reason, as Boot points out, is also rather obvious: It's easier for an individual from an ethnic or religious minority to think of himself as American than French, because being American isn't a matter of ethnicity, while being French... is. The problem is one of identity.

They know that multiculti is the way to destroy a society, not strengthen it, which is why they push it so hard on us, but are realistic about it regarding its chances for creating a peaceful Iraq. Not that they're trying to be honest, they simply see the opportunity to point out how America is going to fail. But they're wrong, and we will prevail.

FRANCE'S SO-CALLED "IMMIGRANT" PROBLEM
Many in France, and on the Left elsewhere - (and in the MSM the Left still dominates), are blaming the recent Paris Intifada on entrenched poverty, discrimination and unemployment within the IMMIGRANT community.
They say this in spite of the fact that MOST of the youths rioting are 2nd-3rd GENERATION FRENCHMEN!
And in spite of the fact that many - if not most - of the great "Frenchmen" of recent times - true contributors of French culture, if not ICONS of France - were IMMIGRANTS or 1st generation French!
IN OTHER WORDS: France DOESN'T have an "immigrant problem"; the "immigrants in the banlieues" (most of whom were BORN IN FRANCE) have a France problem!
Here are a few of the icons of French culture who were NOT ETHNICALLY FRENCH:
Jean Luc Godard is Swiss.
Jacques Tati was Ukrainian.
Yves Montand was Italian.
Charles Aznavour was Armenian.
Albert Camus was Algerian.
Jacques Brel was Belgian.
Napoleon was Italian.
Le Corbusier was Swiss.
Sarah Bernhardt was Dutch-Jewish.
Josephine Baker was African-American.
Isabelle Adjani is German-Turkish/Algerian.
Irene Jacob is Swiss.
Paul Gaugin was Peruvian.
Eugène Ionesco was Romanian.
Zinedine Zidane - is a French-ALGERIAN, a man who led the French "soccer" team to victory in the World Cup in 1998, (when I was studying in Paris) - a team IDOLIZED AND CELEBRATED for its multi-ethnicity.
NICHOLAS SARKOZY - chief of the UMP (Chirac's party) and Interior Minister IS THE SON OF HUNGARIAN IMMIGRANTS - his parents were refugees from communist Hungary.
And this list is incomplete!
So what does this list prove?
That assimilation HAS BEEN A BIG part of French culture - recent culture. And that immigrants (and the children of immigrants) have made HUGE contributions to what Frenchmen call "French Culture."
This reinforces my view that the problem is NOT with France, French culture or the French bureaucracy.
The problem IS NOT that France doesn't want immigrants or mistreats immigrants or that it doesn't lavish enough welfare on immigrants.
The problem is with the immigrants.
REPEAT: The problem is with the immigrants - the problem is that the islamothugs of the banlieues DON'T WANT TO ASSIMILATE.
If they did then, they would - AT THE VERY LEAST - attend and graduate from highschool, and they wouldn't terrorize their sisters for NOT wearing hijabs. What these islamothugs DO want is to carve out a private fiefdom - PARISTAN - for themselves and their islamogangs. A fiefdom where THEY are the authority and French cops are not allowed.
The islamothugs of France must be defeated - and with them, the idea that immigrants ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE (from England to Denmark to Sweden to Italy - -EVERYWHERE!) don't have to assimilate.
My motto is: "No immigration without assimilation!" Not here. Not in France. Not anywhere.
And if they don't like it, then they can GO HOME!

Reliapundit has hit the bullseye. But what you suggest will not happen, not in France, not in Denmark, not in Sweden, and not in America. Because as long as the Left is in power, they think they can use the Islamists against the conservatives and Christians in these societies that they wish to or do dominate.
To solve the Islamist problem, one must first solve the Leftist problem. Once the Leftist problem is solved, then we can turn our full attention to the Islamists, and they will crumble.

It's ridiculous to suggest that Europe even has a tradition of assimilation, they have a tradition of
enclaves whereby foreigners from one country living in another huddle together in common neighborhoods - it's where
Ghettos come from.

the examples i offered prove my case.
sure: there is prejudice in europe.
that;s why lst of our families CAME HERE!
but there is also assimilation.
if immigrants DON'T WANT to assimilate; they cannot be forced to assimilate.
but they can be forced to leave.
this will happen when we defeat Leftism.
defeating leftism is PARAMOUNT.

Non-European immigrants can, at best, become citizens of the French state but they can never be members of the French nation. It is the confusion of state and nation, or more accurately the Leftist desire to dissolve the nation into the state (and the state into whatever the EU is) that has lead many people to think that just because immigrants have French papers that they are somehow, magically, French.
Citizenship and nationality are not the same thing in France or Europe or most of the world for that matter.

ttw: u r right about the antion and state.
but an immigrant person can choose to re-identify with their new hoime - IF THEY WANT TO.
the islamothugs of fracne don't want to.
btw: the islamothugs aren;'t even a nation. unless u call the arab muslim ummah a nation.
really they are tribes. or gangs.
the french islamothugs really REALLY have to dump that cr-p and assimilate if they want to advance in France or the West.
the idea that they can remain tribal and practice an 12th century from of extreme islam and be French is insane; it's sort of like ebonics on crack.

To say that France has a successful assimilation policy because it reveres Josephine Baker and a few other exotic luminaries is to see the forest where it doesn't exist. Simply put, France doesn't assimilate many, or most, of it's immigrants... and not just the Islamic ones. They have a "special status" that isn't the same as that achieved by US immigratns. France does, however, insist that they are all "French" even though they aren't, as a rule, regarded as French by other ethnic Frenchmen. And remember, the case that virtually defined anti-semitism for the European subcontinent was not some Nazi rally, but the Drefus Affair.
To understand the role of ethnicity in defining national identity ask yourself why the term "anti-French" has meaning analogous to the term "anti-American," while the term "unFrench" is just silly compared to the term for traitorous activity: "unAmerican."
That reminds me of a joke about the wording of some of the early drafts of the US Declaration of Independence, which began with the words: "We, the unBritish." Heh.

Please provide links for this assertion.
I argue it is FALSE.
I personally KNOW many FRENCH who are 1st and second genration and FEEL THEY ARE French and who IDENTIFY THEMSELVES as French. And who are accorded full "Frenchness" by other French.
The thugs in the banlieues - on the ohter hands - DO NOT IDENTIUFY THEMSELVES as French.
It is THEY - and NOT THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT or the French people who determine that they will not assimilate.
Camus was as French as they come - a true icon, not merely a revered exotic luminary - as you so "snidefully" and disdainfully describe. ALL the people I listed were revered by the VAST MAJORITY of Frenchmen, many EPITOMIZED Frenchness - Godard, Tati, Gaugin, NAPOLEON. And so on.
And when you wrote this:
'To understand the role of ethnicity in defining national identity ask yourself why the term "anti-French" has meaning analogous to the term "anti-American," while the term "unFrench" is just silly compared to the term for traitorous activity: "unAmerican."

Well these comments of yours are GIBBERISH or RUBBISH. Take your pick. And totally irrrelevant, ungermaine, and vague.
I'll STICK TO THE POINT: the islamothugs haven't assimliated BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE NOT TO. It's what they say; it's in their behavior - not just during the riots but for the last several years. They WANT to stay in the banlieues, and rule them as fiefdoms. As written about HERE:
http://jihadwatch.org/archives/008902.php
ALSO, you wrote:
"... even though they aren't, as a rule, regarded as French by other ethnic Frenchmen."
HOGWASH! I know Frenchmen who REVERE the ethnic diverse group I mentioned. While I lived and studied in Paris we often PLAYED at makming this list of non-French French heros BIGGER AND BIGGER. The list I wrote up heree (and at my blog) was just made up of the ones which came back to mind quickly.
If the vast majority of French were as racist or xenophobic as you assert, and if this xenophobia was embedded in the government and bureaucracy then they would not revere non-ethnically French people and embrace them as the epitome of Frenchness.
THE KEY HERE IS FRENCHNESS. The people I listed all embraced French culture. And they were embraced in return.
The islamothugs do not embrace France or French culture. They throw rocks at more than passing cars: The throew rocks at France and at French culture.
That's the CRUX of the problem, and why they should be exiled.
So Demosophist: admit defeat and move along.
ALL THE BEST!

reliapundit: While you have a point that one must assimilate of one's own accord, it's a bit more complicated than even you declare. And I will admit that even in the US where assimilation is marginally more successful (it used to be moreso) the most difficult group to integrate into our society seems to be the Muslims. They are the most steadfast in demanding their cultural and religious values are recognized as superior enough to give them a different set of rules. Funny though that we find many more "moderate" Muslims here than anywhere.
But one has to consider opportunities provided through governmental policies and limited, yet realistic, acceptance by society at large. The French government's social policies offer little (which is evident in their unemployment rate and economic growth rate) in the way of opportunity which, if implemented, can soften up even the most hardcore foreigner to a degree and make them more "willing" to abandon aspects of an ideology or behaviors which are "unacceptable" to the public.
It's opportunity that
many of them need. Not a hand-out. A chance to prosper always has a way of getting everyone on the same page. Of course there are always those who will never get with the program, but that could be minimized.

I argue it is FALSE.
Provide links for this assertion. You provide a list of 14 people of ostensibly non-French nationality, six of whom are western European. How does this prove your point? CLearly I did not say that
no one is assimilated, but that assimilation has been unsuccessful (especially in comparison to the US).
The reference to "unAmerican," which you characterize as vague and irrelevant, appears initially in the work of Lipset and bears directly on the issue of assimilation and ethnicity. Simply put, being "American" involves subscription to a set of beliefs and values. Therefore it makes sense that one who is nominally "American" in terms of citizenship can also be "unAmerican." Nationality so define doesn't exclude on the basis of ethnicity, so one can be a member no matter what your blood heritage. Not so for ethnically-defined nationality, where you're either French or you aren't, so there's no such thing as being "unFrench." It is a clear concept that goes right to the heart of the matter.
The reference to the Dreyfus Affair is, likewise, hardly irrelevant. It comes from Hannah Arendt's excellent book On Totalitarianism in which she traces the growth of anti-semitism in Europe, from the Dreyfus trial to the Nazis.
You don't grok those examples because your theory necessitates that you ignore them.
At the moment I'm too busy to document the claims about aggregate assimilation, but suggest you get your hands on the latest version of the World Values Survey, administered by Ron Inglehart and U. of MI. There's a question series in that survey that tracks prejudice based on ethnicity and religion (as well as other social indicators). France has always been toward the top of that scale, though still far below Belgium, which continues to be about twice as bigotted as any other western country (an odd state of affairs since the country is composed of two nationalities). But I should think that the mere fact that these countries continue to preserve ethnic and cultural ghettos ought to be enough to make the case, without "linking" anything.
If the vast majority of French were as racist or xenophobic as you assert, and if this xenophobia was embedded in the government and bureaucracy then they would not revere non-ethnically French people and embrace them as the epitome of Frenchness.
Why not? The love the exotic, that's all. And, of course, I'm not saying that all Frenchmen age bigots. What I'm saying is that there are reasons why you'll find Muslim ghettos in France, but virtually none in the US. And we're talking about ghettoization that lasts for generations. They may be "embedded" but they aren't assimilated.
By the way, the failure to assimilate isn't entirely a matter of French bigotry. As Eli Berman has shown, if you subsidize a religious or ethnic group (even unintentionally) that group is far more likely to become radicalized. To the extent that the US is less successful at assimilation than it use to be, at least part of that loss can be blamed on the influence of the multiculturalists whose practical influence is to provide subsidization. Whereas immigrant groups used to lose their group identity within a generation or two, the process has slowed down considerably.
But there was never a group more insular than the Jews, and even this group tended to lose identity so quickly that their elders became alarmed. Again, read Lipset's
Jews and the New American Scene.
Gotta go..

"Gangsta is the way of the oppressed, hated people who have no money, no future and no reason to behave."
i.e. as long as a person satisfies those criteria, itÂ’s okay for them to take their anger out on others and be not just a threat but a burden to society. ThereÂ’s no need for aspirations or determination to be better. After all, history shows that people from poor backgrounds never, ever succeed. Best just to stay angry and let the liberals tell you that itÂ’s okay to do so because they understand you.

Complaining About Big Breasts, Small Butts
Check out a recent feminist complaint from Australia.
A beer advertisement championing females with large breasts and a small behind has been slammed as portraying Australians as "a bunch of crude, sexist yobbos." The Foster's beer ad has been seen extensively throughout the Russian Federation. It depicts a bikini with a small top and a large bottom above the caption "the law of life." Below that is a bikini with a large top and a small bottom captioned "the law of Foster's."
The ad has prompted an angry response from Australian women. Women's Electoral Lobby Australia chairwoman Eva Cox said: "It is bloody stupid. "Why would they bother antagonising a whole pile of women who could drink Foster's? "Companies have got to get a bit smarter about this sort of stuff." (more)
Now, excuse me for being dense about this, but why would women be antagonized for being physically attractive? One could easily believe that Eva Cox wants women, in general, and any reference to female physical attributes, in particular, to be excluded from all advertising. Why? I don't know, but
I'd suggest that this woman named Eva Cox would benefit from a day of stiff homonyms. She needs to lighten up.

What kind of "woman" has a small butt? I honestly think men that are into small-butted women are just freaking wrong. Women are not supposed to look like young girls, or young boys, or like men, but like
women dammit! All soft fleshy curves and such, not flat surfaces and hard angles, with bones sticking out. The image of women that has been force-fed to society for forty years is that of Twiggy; androgenous and childlike, the vision of sick minds, rather than the perfectly womanly specimen of Marilyn Monroe, who had little appeal for the perverted deviants of Madison Avenue and Hollywood, who still seem to be split on whether they're more into underage boys or underage girls.
Is it any wonder that deviance in society, everything from homosexuality, to pedophilia, to Lord-knows-what, has increased geometrically in the last forty years? Is it any wonder that every day there are more cases of abduction and rape of young boys and girls by men who don't fit the classical profile of a deviant? I was watching a program on one of the cable news channels, I think it was MSNBC, and it was about pedophiles who troll the internet looking for kids in chat rooms, and they had a house set up so that they could actually bust them going to where they thought a kid was. It was sickening. They logged the chat conversations and printed them, and had the men come to the house, thinking they were going to meet a child for sex, but instead met the crew. One guy came in naked. It was morbidly funny, but sickening nonetheless. One man was a teacher, another a Rabbi, and all were "normal" men, other than the fact that they pegged my gaydar's needle. We have allowed to happen exactly what the liberals have been trying to accomplish; our moral fiber has come unraveled, and now we are not even shocked when we hear of another pedophile murdering a child, it's become like hearing the traffic report.
I've said it before, and I'll repeat it as often as I must: Liberals are a pestilence and a plague upon human society, and should all be taken out and shot.

I like women with big boobs and little butts. I also like women with small boobs and big butts. Or any combination. I just like women. Er, that is as long as they don't perfer the same women as I.
Remember. Telling the truth is always offensive to someone. In fact the truth is offensive. Shame. The truth will set you free. Hogwash! The truth made me a racist. AND I LOVE IT. Why? because I'm always right. Love it.

Al Qaeda Claims Amman Blasts
According to a an unverified statement on an Islamist website, Al Qaeda in Iraq takes responsibility for the triple bomb attacks on Amman hotels.
From ABC News Online:
"A group of our best lions launched a new attack on some dens," the statement said.
"After casing the targets, some hotels were chosen which the Jordanian despot turned into a backyard for the enemies of the faith, the Jews and crusaders."
The statement was signed by a spokesman for Al Qaeda in Iraq.
The admission comes as no surprise since al Qaeda was suspected from the very beginning. That said, it is odd that many hours transpired before they claimed responsibility.

Yeah it takes "lions" of great courage to attack a heavily fortified wedding reception guarded by hordes of inebriated, dancing senior citizens and young children, not to mention the tower cake booby traps. In Islam courage is definitely graded on a very low curve.

You're right, Graeme, that's why the moron detonated himself in the middle of a Muslim wedding. Goodness knows the bride and groom had to be up to something.

Please provide me with the website url that you continue to site in your news stories about al qaeda. You and many other news sources cite "an Islamic website that acts as a clearing house for statements by militant groups" and yet you never publish the url. Please be responsible and provide the url. It is quite ridiculous not to publish the website url every single time something happens. Please allow the readers to decide for themselves.
So again, I ask, can you give me the url for this "website that acts as a clearing house for statements by militant groups?"
Thank you.

The New Troll From Seoul
Some of you readers have expressed your irritation at a persistent troll in the comments section calling itself "Route Irish". The IP traces back to Seoul, just like another
infamous lefty
spamtard we used to have around here.
Such creatures never engage in debate, they just come in and leave links to "From the Wilderness" and droll asides like BUSHY McCHIMPHITLERBACON!!!.
Do other bloggers have this persistent problem of Kim-Jong-Illin' Commie-troll Nork-Porkers leaving anti-American scat in their comments? Or is the Jawa Report just unusually fortunate?

An outrage! If you remember, just before the mu.nu suspiciously crashed for days, I posted news about a Finn getting sued for breaking the freedom of belief by trolling on a church forum.
The verdict:
300 €, to compensate harm done to the Jesus-people
+1300 €, for his "spam machine" that hurt Eniro's internet bisnes
+his comp, since it always goes when convicted for web crimes/"crimes".
This goes into same category with making anti-Bush people protest where Bush and TV-cams can't see them. Fine, just 300 € total to about a dozen people, but it's the thought, and what EU-humanrights court thinks about this, that counts. Bad publicity, even if it's obvious that the court didn't care about the "mental damage". Cancel verdict and give him back his 300 €.

Spammers should just be killed. Think about it, they are demonstrating their total lack of ability to fit into any kind of mainstream social order by their constant attempts to destabilize said order. In the future, when things are better due to the occurence of much prudently directed violence, such people will be castrated, de-tongued, and put to work at menial labor in the fields, which is about all they're good for.

Idle Speculation
I wonder whether the imminent attack that was foiled in Australia was planned to go down today. It would be consistent with Al Qaeda's M.O. to try to arrange simultaneous attacks--and quite ambitious to try it on different continents.
UPDATE: Commenter Patrick points out that it's 11-9.
Or as the English and many other countries would represent the date, it's 09/11/2005.

Explosions in Amman, Jordan
(Amman, Jordan) Eighteen people are reported dead from explosions at three major Amman hotels about two hours ago. Suicide bombers are suspected. More than 120 injured.
From the JPost:
"The attacks carry the trademark of al-Qaida," one police official said on condition of anonymity in line with police regulations. "However it is not certain. We are investigating."
The explosions struck the Grand Hyatt, Radisson SAS and Days Inn hotels. A police officer at the Radisson site said it was caused "apparently by a bomb."
The hotels, in the commercial Jebel Amman district, are frequented by American and European businessmen and diplomats. The Radisson, in particular, is popular with Israeli tourists, and was a target of several foiled al-Qaida plots in the past.
Developing ...
[Update 1625 EST]
From Reuters, at least 23 people are now reported dead from three suspected suicide bombers in the three hotels.
The explosion at the Radisson Hotel occurred in a banquet room where 300 people were attending a wedding reception. The room was adjacent to a bar which security sources believe was the intended target.
The stone entrance to the Grand Hyatt was completely shattered. Hyatt General Manager Otto Steenbeek stated the explosion was in the bar area and caused many casualties.
The blasts came without warning or any hint from intelligence. Thus far, no claims of responsibility have been received.
Television news reports that suicide bombers are believed to have walked into the hotels. Videotape surveillance footage should be available. Similarities are being drawn to last month's bombings in Bali where suicide bombers walked into restaurants.
[Update 1640 EST]
Fox News reports that a Jordanian security force spokesman has confirmed that there are 53 dead. The explosions are believed to be the first organized simultaneous terrorist attacks in Jordan.
[Update 1700 EST]
From Lawhawk, it seems there may have been some warning that Jordan was a target for an imminent attack. Check out Hammorabi who posts an alert that Zarqawi has been planning an attack in Jordan. The source of the information is not clear.
[Update 1745 EST]
(via television newscasts) The Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher said there were two suicide bombers and a car bomb. The Hyatt and Radisson were attacked by suicide walk-ins, the Days Inn was attacked with a car bomb. The death toll has increased to 57.
The AP reports approximately 300 wounded. The borders of Jordan have been sealed and a search is underway for collaborators.
Jordan's King Abdullah blamed a "deviant and misled group" for the attacks. The Jordanian cabinet is in an emergency session.

A few weeks back there was a survey that found that within the Middle East, Jordan has the highest local support for AQ. Assuming this is the work of AQ (which it probably is), these buttwipes certainly know how to thank their supporters. They've killed "infidels", but they've also put a damper on the tourism industry on which the Jordanian economy depends so much upon.

AS I PREDICTED: JIHADOTERROR STRIKES IN JORDAN
On September 25th, I predicted that the jihadoterrorists would SOON try to expand their attacks into Jordan. I said this because it is my belief that as we put more pressure on Zarqawi -- and Assad & Iran: THE TWO MAIN NATIONAL BACKERS OF JIHADOTERROR -- that they would get their jihadoproxies to try to widen the "battlefield" from the Sunni sections of Iraq and eastern/southeastern Afghanistan to Jordan and Israel.
http://astuteblogger.blogspot.com/2005/09/israel-retaliates-with-airstrikes.html
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT'S HAPPENING.
The ball is now in King Abdullah's court. He must respond ruthlessly, or risk being overthrown by the jihadoterrorists - just like his father nearly was in "Black September."
BTW: Assad's stance is hardnening - he's BANNING the UN officials investigating Hariri's MURDER. STAY TUNED... especially to Assad's RARE scheduled live television address to his nation on Thursday night...

Ya know, the total difference between liberals and Men can be summed thus: When faced with a threat, Men will fight to the death, whereas liberals will prostrate themselves and fellate their attackers without a second thought. Men are Alphas and Betas, while liberals are simply Omegas that band together to bring down the real Men, which is why there are now so many more liberals than Men in society, we've allowed them to take down too many of us. As I often say, the sooner they start their precious revolution, the better, because I want to make a pyramid of their skulls as a fitting memorial to a failed ideology.

'Deport non-French rioters'
Sacre Bleu! A Frenchman actually displaying some stones.
Paris - Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday issued orders for non-French rioters convicted in the wave of urban violence to be deported - a measure directed at youths of Arab and African background living in the high-immigrant neighbourhoods involved in the unrest.
Sarkozy told prefects, or regional governors, to apply the order to foreigners including those who have valid French residency visas.
He told parliament that "120 foreigners, not all of whom are here illegally, have been convicted" of taking part in the nightly rampages that have occurred since October 27.
"I have asked the prefects to deport them from our national territory without delay, including those who have a residency visa," he said.

I'll tell you this, if they really do commence with the deportations, the riots will be over. These rats don't want to leave France because they will actually have to go to work to survive. And it will ruin their long term plans. The ones who are born in France will not want to see their buddies deported.
